Fun Ways to Celebrate Father's Day and the Sunshine at Home

It’s the Official Start of Summer! Wondering how to celebrate the longest day of the year, the official start of summer and Father’s Day? Here are some easy ways to enjoy an amazing day in the comfort of your own home.

Host a Backyard Photo Shoot With a little help from a black marker, customize messages on hands a feet of the participants. Work out a message that matches the number of hands and feet you have available. Think of some clever poses, coordinate the position of hands and feet and write the message in the correct order. Snap away, and capture the laughter of the day by framing the best photos.

Create a Summer Playlist of chart topping songs of the season. Include the oldies but goodies like “Summer Nights” from John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John; “Surfin’ USA” from the Beachboys and of course, “Summertime” from DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. For a special Father’s Day playlist you can include all-time favorites like “Just the Two of Us” from Fresh Prince, “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw and the posthumousduet from Nat King Cole And Natalie Cole: “Unforgettable.”

Host a Seasonal Scavenger Hunt  Make a list of some signs of summer, gather the kids, and head to a nature preserve, park, or even the backyard. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Bee visiting a flower
  • Wildflowers in bloom
  • Grasshopper
  • Baby animals
  • Birds chirping
  • Lightning bugs
  • Spider in a web
  • Frogs
  • Butterfly on a flower
  • Berries growing
  • Seedling plant sprouting
  • Fish in a pond
  • Hummingbird

And the best way to kick off the summer? Breathe deep, relax and dream of the sunny days ahead!
